Silent Cube for long-term storage on hard drives

Hard drives are not particularly suitable for long term storage of data, because they tend to be torn up and broken. But Silent Cube is a technically interesting solution!
Silent Cube is not for home users, we can conclude from the start. But it's still pretty cool! Basically it is an external storage device whose purpose is to stay as long as possible.
In order to do this utilizes twelve hard drives that mirror each other in a way that allows up to four of the disks may break, without losing any information. By using four drives each from three different vendors to propagate the risks of further problems.

The capacity of the Silent Cube is scalable up to petabyte-area. This is done by using multiple devices. Each Silent Cube has 4TB of storage. To deal with Silent Cube needed a rack mount head unit with NAS interface, and such controls up to 128 units.
Silent Cube distributed in Sweden by the Optical Storage. A basic package with the main unit and a Silent Cube has a target price of approximately 100 000 SEK.

Here you can download free music totally legal

To download music from the Internet need not be criminal. It is fully legal options, and one of these is the Creative Commons. In this article you will learn how to download legal music.
All musicians are not looking to simply sell records, and it is far from all groups and individual musicians who have contracts with record companies. Most people involved in music as a hobby, whether they dream of a fat recording contract, or if they just do it because it's fun, they have one thing in common, and it is they want to get music out to as many as possible.
Here, the Internet has opened the door to amazing possibilities. The so-called DIY culture ( Do It Yourself ) actually thrive on the Internet. Anyone can now use a computer to record music and then spread the music all over the world thanks to the special services that distributes free music .
To launch his music under the license Creative Commons means briefly that you may disitrbuera music freely. Artists rarely serve any direct money from this, apart from any gifts, but they may like their music, find new fans and can thereby obtain gigs and the like.

In fact, there are an incredible number of bands around the world who spread their music as Creative Commons. There are many sites that focus on this type of music, and it should be emphasized that it is far from bad music here. Of course, you will not find the latest single from Kent or Madonna, but if you love to find new and exciting music of all genres, this is a gold mine.

Ladda ner free music

Jamendo is one of the most famous sites in the music released under Creative Commons license. At this writing there are here over 25 000 albums to download. All are categorized and the site is easy to navigate in. The music charge legally downloaded as MP3 - or Ogg format to your hard drive.
When I first found Jamendo, I wrote a short article about it to my blog. Then I found the one-man band Brad Sucks, and when I sat down with this article, I had to check up on Brad Sucks still remained. He did, and moreover, he had released a new album -Out of It .
Therefore, I use Brad Sucks - Out of It as an example to show how to download music from Jamendo. On this page you can click through to various categories, or browse the recommended music. In our case, enter " Brad Sucks " into the search field at the top of the page. When you get the search results, click through to Out of It.

I MP3-format music

On album pages with Jamendo, you can choose between listening to music streaming, or download it. Click on Download to download music to your hard drive, from which you can then transfer it to your MP3 player or mobile phone. The pop-up window that pops up, click again to download .

The download will now start automatically. If it does not, click on the link direct link at the top of the window. You can also choose to download the album via BitTorrent .Then you choose to download the music as either MP3 or Ogg. My experience is that it is faster to download normally, then it is not a lot of people distributing music via BitTorrent. Are the current media available with the recommended music, and Jamendo for spreading the word, it might be faster to use BitTorrent.
Want to learn more about BitTorrent and how to get started for free with utorrent, I recommend that you read my Beginner's Guide to uTorrent which is on my blog.
The file you download is archived in Zip format. That means you need a Zip utility to open it. Since Windows XP, Microsoft has implemented some support for Zip files in Windows, so probably you can open the file even if you do not have the Zip utility.Otherwise, you can download IZArc, which is freeware and free.
If you find any really good music, please leave a comment below! And if you have tips on other free music services, feel free to tell about them.

Review: Small speakers from Philips for laptops

There are very few laptops that have built-in speakers worth mentioning. Most are gruesomely bad, so would you listen to music, you should get a couple of external. Philips Multimedia Speakers 2.0 is small and can manage the power from USB.
Philips small speakers in white, black and yellow. They are pretty to look when placed together with the computer, at least if you have a computer that is white.Together with my metallic colored laptop cut it, however, entitled significantly in design, and the speakers suddenly looked very plastic.
The purpose of the speakers is primarily to the use of laptop computers. I certainly think they are just a bit to clumsy to be dismantled in a computer bag. Do you have an ordinary flat panel computer bag will you get knöka properly to get them down.

From the right speaker is three wires , one to the left speaker, one who you connect to your computer's audio output and one that connects to an available USB port on your computer. The latter is used for the speakers to get power. There is therefore no external power supply, but it is enough USB port. It is smooth.
On the underside of the speakers is a deepening and a small device to spin up the wiring to. It's good, because otherwise it becomes a small white viper's nest of wires.

Sound quality is absolutely acceptable

In the case of such small speakers to get forward its own demands on a different level than when testing ordinary speakers. First, the speakers so small, but most of all, you can not squeeze out what seems like forever when you're limited in power from the USB port.
Philips Multimedia Speakers 2.0 can do really well. You will not be able to use them for the dance floor down in the rec room, but to listen to music while sitting at your computer running absolutely fine. The sound is relatively good quality and is actually pulling up the volume quite well.
The price of Philips speakers is around 300 SEK, depending on where you shop somewhere. There is an agreed price.

It's fun to grub in the system

I've been a Windows user since the mid 1990's. Before that I drove the Amiga and Vic-64. Sure, I have test driven a lot of Linux, and Mac I've used a lot because I was educated typographer and works with newspapers. Therefore, I consider myself to have enough meat on the bones when I say that I think Windows is the best operating system .

The main reason is now that I'm used to. I can, and has been around since Windows 3.11. I have learned to make the system work as I want, by adapting it for my own taste, fellösa and look the little things I can tune to get better performance. And so on.

Mac users tend to always mock me for this. Why not get a Mac where you do not have to keep on fiddling the system? The answer to this, that I like to grub around in the system ! I want control of the operating system and be able to choose exactly what is running in the background.
Thanks to these opportunities, I have not had to change the computer very often. When it starts to go slow, just down the round and get back performance. It can safely do on the Mac also, of course - I do not write it here to start the OS war, but to explain why I prefer Windows.
When I sit down at a friend's computer and find it extremely tough, I can not help but to trim it. With old habits I go through all the background programs, run antispyware and cleaning, removes debris and uninstall unnecessary units. They are always happy when they can use his computer normally again, and I still think it's fun.

Super Fast Compact Flash by SanDisk

SanDisk claims that they have launched the fastest compact flashCard. With an impressive literacy rate is addressed in particular to the memory card if you have an SLR that can record video.
Many of today's new SLR has the ability to record videos of up to Full HDQuality. To do this you need to get away from the bottleneck of slow memory. This makes SanDisk new Extreme Pro CompactFlashSeries a interesting choice.
SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash has a read / write speed of impressive 90 MB per second. The cards are available with a variety of storage capacities ranging from 16 to 64 MB.
Among the memory cards are SD cards the most widely used today. Most digital cameras and digital camcorders use the SDHC, which is the faster version of SD cards. But compact flash, Which is a major card, has advantages to offer better transfer rates, which is why they are often used by the SLR.

Digital Photo Frame - what is it ?

The shelves of electronics stores, there are now long lines of digital photo frames .They have been thoroughly popular, despite their price tags. This article explains what it is!
digital photo frame can be easily explained seen as an ordinary picture frame in which the photograph is replaced with an LCD screen to display digital photos . This means that you do not need the same old photograph in context all the time, but you can set it to switch all the time. The aim is really that it's cool . And that's it.
The first digital photo frames were a scrubby LCD screen and a small internal memory that is filled with a few digital photos by connecting the photo frame to a computer.Nowadays, current photo frames, as a rule both plenty of internal memory , but also built-in memory card reader and USB port . It allows you to take the memory card from your digital camera and plug directly into the frame to show photos.

Photos by e-mail

Furthermore, there are photo frames that can receive images in other ways. Bluetoothis an example, that Philips SPH8008 offers, where you can send over images wirelessly from your mobile phone. Connect your phone via Bluetooth and transferring pictures to the photo frame, as soon as they pop up on screen.
There are also photo frames that can connect to your network at home - both wireless and via Ethernet cable. Here there are interesting possibilities. Some photo frames can download images from Internet .
I've read about digital photo frames that can check an email address for digital photos, which means that anyone who has the address can post pictures to your photo frame. This can be rikigt cool if you have friends or relatives who are out on the trip. Every day we put up new photos from the African savannahs to your photo frame in the living room! The manufacturer eStarling have digital photo frames with your own email addresses , and they are now in Sweden.

Slideshow and editing

The software of digital photo frames have become increasingly sophisticated. Most are handled through an interface on the display itself, which is controlled by buttons located on the frame. Some photo frames have features to make basic image editing. This can be useful if you want to transfer photos directly from digital camera or camera phone. Maybe you want to crop and fix red-eye?
As a rule, you show so clearly not a static image, but instead runs a slideshow of all or a group of images on memory. These slideshows can be done in different ways depending on the digital picture frame you purchase. There are transitions to choose from, which makes viewing more enjoyable. Some frames also capable of playingbackground music , and there is sometimes support for playing videos .

Still high price

What speaks against to buy a digital photo frame today is that the price tag often is quite high. The above mentioned Philips SPH8008 costs in 2595 dollars. It is the juiciest team, even if the price is justified by the technology of the digital photo frame can hold. But given that the field is limited - it is as I say mostly a fun thing - it feels like a lot of money for the average home user to post.
But if you really Vil have a digital photo frame, there is therefore plenty to choose from.Take a look at example MediaMarkt or electric giant to find a plethora of options. There is also plenty to find on the web. Digital Photo Frames need not be in black and white plastic, for I have seen several models that have real wooden frames and another great design.
If you have purchased a digital photo frame that you are happy with, please feel free toleave a comment below to tell other readers of this blog.

Picasa - organize and fix your digital photos

Google bought for quite a while since the imaging tool, Picasa, and they have not been lazy. The program is developed continuously and will in the new version. Picasa is now a very powerful tool for all digital photographers. Its strength lies in the organization of your digital photos. Instead of copying the images from the camera to somewhere on your hard disk, you make it through Picasa. The program will then index your images in a database, which makes it much easier to find specific images in the future.
In addition to organized like Picasa also contains all basic features for editing photos. With a few mouse clicks, you can fix your pictures to get the colors and brightness. There are other exceptional features to crop and scale. Picasa is translated into Swedish. Google has done well.
A plus is that you can create web albums to upload your images on the Internet. Via Picasa and Google, you get free space for publishing your photos, although the free version is rather limited in terms of storage space.

Paint.NET - who has grown a replacement

It began when a programmer seriously tired of the horrible Windows Paint, and decided to make a replacement. Paint.NET was added, and since then it has constantly evolved to now be an easy to use but funktionsspäckat image editing program. You'll find all the basics to quickly fix the color, contrast and brightness of digital photos, but there are also effects and you can even work with layers.
Paint.NET is an excellent choice for the beginner who is looking for a program that is easy to use. The interface is neat and easy to understand. There is also a Swedish translation to charge you. Once you've downloaded the program on its website, and installed it, please download the Swedish version and install it. Then the program works in our mother tongue.

Review: Iomega eGo Encrypt, secure and portable hard drive

A major risk with portable hard drives is that they are easy to steal. If you plan to store important data on your hard disk, it is important that you protect the data in different ways. Iomega eGo Encrypt is a portable drive that has built-in protection.
Iomega eGo Encrypt looks about like most portable hard drives in the company's eGo series. They build on the hard disks of size 2.5 inches, which is positive in the way that they both will be relatively small and does not require any external power other than the USB connection. You do not need to lug along a power adapter. The chassis is solid steel and around the connector has a protective rubber. Iomega calls its solution Drop Guard, and the hard drive is designed to withstand the drop from 2.1 meters height.
The first time you plug in the device starts a program that asks you to fill in the disk's own serial number and a password. You can also choose to complete the password questions, the usual about where you were born and what your mother's name before she married. These questions are then used if you forget your password. The next time you connect the Iomega eGo Encrypt to a computer, to start a program that requests the password. When you enter the lock disk and you can use it like any other entity whatsoever. In addition to password protection, all data is also stored encrypted using AES encryption to 128 bits.
Through the program, Flash Memory Toolkit, I tested how fast it was to write and read to the device. The complete numbers you see in the table of images below. The speed was around 20 MB per second, which may be regarded as clearly acceptable. The data is said to also be encrypted and it takes a bit of power.
Iomega's drives have always been a bit more than most others in terms of price. 1900 SEK is the asking price for the Iomega eGo Encrypt, but I think this is not too much. The unit holds 320 GB and the security offered is clearly worth the money, if you want to make sure that no one can access your files.
Facts about Iomega eGo Encrypt:
  • Contact: Iomega
  • Size: 9 x 14 x 2.5 cm
  • Weight: 268 grams
  • Capacity: 320 GB
  • Encryption: AES 128 bit hardware encryption
  • Interface: USB 2.0
  • Target price: 1900 SEK

PhotoScape - different image processor for bloggers

When I first drove PhotoScape I was really impressed. I still am. If I do not have access to a license for Photoshop, or if I should use a computer that is not greasy stools with Adobe programs, usually the choice to fall on PhotoScape. It is a different image editing program that is divided into various tools. The interface is neat and it is not difficult to learn.
In many ways PhotoScape the ultimate free program in imaging for bloggers.  It contains, inter alia, namely smart features to automatically scale the frame and put on more pictures. Say you took several digital photos that you want to publish to your blog. Then you need to rescale the images and maybe you want a frame around them.Select multiple images, make settings and let PhotoScape do the work for you.
More features worth mentioning is the excellent part of the collage. Here you will find a wide range of ready-made formats, ie types of collagen. After selecting one, then just drag and drop images on each frame in the collage. Then save your collage as a common Jpeg and upload to the blog. Furthermore, there is a feature for creating GIF animations.
PhotoScape is different from its competitors, but it's different in a good way. It is clearly worth a try!

Smart freeware makes your Vista PC faster

Windows Vista is not classified often as a fast operating system. A large part of the problem lies, just like in XP, in all the unnecessary services running in the background. Several of these can be turned off to save the performance. Doing it yourself can be difficult, and therefore is free with Vista Services Optimizer is a good alternative.

Vista Services Optimizer is a free tool that will help to tune your settings for the so-called services. You can fiddle the settings by going to Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools . Here's a tool called Services . It is recommended only if you are sure what you're doing. For others, the Vista Service Optimizer in handy.

The program has two modes, you can either do all the configuration manually or automatically. For beginners, I recommend the automatic, and then start it by clicking the Automatic tuneup . Now you'll see a page with various options, which you can check how you use your computer. You may choose if you have your PC connected to a network and whether you share files on it.
In addition, you will select the questions that correspond with your system - for example, if you do not use Windows' own security tools because you have a security suite installed (for example, an internet security suite from Symantec, McAfee, F-Secure, Panda, Kaspersky, or anyone else) . When you are finished with these selections, click Apply Changes .

This job takes a few minutes. After doing that, you need to restart your computer for these settings to go through, and the services are not needed will not restart.
It can be fun to write up the information about memory usage as shown on the Vista Service Optimizer first page, and then compare the numbers after you restart the computer. Just be sure to turn off all regular program before you compare.

New generation of Iomega with antivirus

Iomega eGo-series has become a popular choice among consumers who are looking for a small portable hard drive with good quality. Now comes the next generation, which includes virus protection.
I've tested a lot of external hard drivesfrom Iomega, over the years, and in summary, is the always high quality (with some exceptions for certain media, hard drives and a poor support for file formats). The most prominent is that they always feel very solid built and reliable - and that the price tag often is a notch higher than competing models with similar specifications.
eGo is a small external device that has an aluminum case which houses a disk of 2.5 inches. Since there is a small 2.5-inch drive, can do eGo stream coming from the USB connection. You need, therefore, no external power adapter, but it is just to connect a computer to get the disk. eGo weighs in at 200 grams.
The new generation comes with Iomega Protection Suite . This software includes McAfee VirusScan Plus (with a 6-month subscription), Iomega QuikProtect (simple backup), EMC Retrospect Express (advanced backup) and MozyHome Online Backup (online backup of 2GB).
Iomega eGo is available in several colors and also a shock-mounted model called the Black Belt . They come in capacities of 320 GB and 500 GB. For the 320 GB model is the target price 995 dollars and 500 GB will cost 1290 dollars. The shock-proof Black Belt, which holds 500 GB, has a price tag of 1490 dollars.

Forget the paperless office - it is dead

A few years ago was talk much about thepaperless office . With datornas rampage, with e-mail and Word documents and all it is, so the paper would soon have had their day. Ha!
The paperless office was a dream and that dream is further away. Although we basically sit in front of our computers all day long (well, we who work in these industries that is). Now, says HP on a new European study shows that it is the younger generation who prefer paper over the old.
A recent survey in Europe in particular, what tools employees of small and medium-sized companies use when making decisions shows that the youngest has the greatest confidence in the printed surface. In the age group under 24 years say 84 percent that they use prints to 77 percent of all age groups and only 59 percent of the oldest, those over 55.
One would think that it was the opposite, but it's apparently not. The younger you are, the more reliance is placed anywhere on the paper. For skrivarbranschen this is of course good news. For the environment, it's not as good. Mother Nature never seems to manage to win.
I myself am not much better . My printer is quite warm, even if I try to keep it down.At work, for example, we never run out pages of newspapers on paper, but works exclusively with PDFs on screen. Personally I think that the biggest advantage of the paper, is that you can take it with you everywhere and you can scribble on it. It is not easy to scribble on an Excel or Word documents.
How do you do - print a lot, or run everything on the computer screen?

The Threat of fake antivirus

A new threat
For years, we have detected harmful content on the web and we have helped to protect users from most of them. Vulnerabilities in popular web browsers and plug-ins have resulted in an increase in the number of users whose systems can be compromised by attacks known as "drive-by downloads." These attacks do not require any user interaction, allowing attackers to run code on a user's computer without his knowledge. However, even without these vulnerabilities, we can exploit certain psychological vulnerabilities of an unsuspecting user, convincing him to unknowingly install malicious code supplied by an attacker on your computer. A growing threat is the spread of products known as Fake Anti-Virus ( AntiVirus False).
Fake Antivirus
This malware exploits the fear of the users that their computer might be vulnerable, as well as their desire to take the appropriate corrective action. For example visit a malicious or compromised Web site to download it and pushing it a false remedy, or sometimes even an ad malicious, which produces

that may affect the safety of a car. Security experts are working to help protect users against the threats of Fake AntiVirus anywhere.
The research data
Security experts have conducted a thorough analysis on the presence of Fake Antivirus Web over the past 13 months. The results are nothing short of alarming. The research analysis was conducted on 240 million web pages, and during the 13 months of study by experts showed that more than 11,000 domains are involved in the distribution of Fake AntiVirus and about 15% of domains found on the internet during that period is corrupted by malware. Over the years, the lifetime distribution of the domains by using the Fake AntiVirus attacks decreased significantly. However, despite the decrease significant lifetime of these domains, you should use products that your company's information security of trust. iPhone 4 : Apple removes references to competition on the performance of the antenna

Apple decided to remove the page dedicated to the performance of the antenna from its website. The deleted page is for videos that demonstrate poor reception or otherwise available for mobile products from the competition. The page was made visible after the Conference by Steve Jobs on the problems of the antenna 's iPhone 4. Some of the videos showed the decrease of signal in 4 iPhone and iPhone 3G, other video, however, were dedicated to the phones of other manufacturers: Blackberry, HTC, Samsung, Nokia and Motorola.
This move is not liked by the competitors and this could be one (but not only) of the reasons that led to the cancellation of part of the page. The Apple has not, in fact, removed the whole page on the antenna, but only the section reserved for the signal power of mobile competitors.
References to negative data are completely missing, expressions such as "defective", "bad signal" and "limited benefits" have been eliminated altogether, to return to talk about iPhone 4 in terms of excellence.
Probably the original intentions, those that led to the preparation of the signal from the page, had to demonstrate that if the iPhone 4 has a signal problem is not the only, but this maneuver may have started and then suspended the 'desired outcome? That is to compare the iPhone and other smartphones to emphasize that the limit is just that belongs to the whole class.
References to competition were removed at a later time, even in the Italian page, but surely the public will remember all the noise that this situation has been created.
